NSA: Boko Haram Threatening Democratic Foundations

300812T.Sambo-Dasuki.jpg - 300812T.Sambo-Dasuki.jpg

NSA, Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd)
By Senator Iroegbu
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has said the activities of the Jamaatu Ahlis Sunna Liddaawati Wal Jihad commonly known as Boko Haram, is threatening the very democratic foundations and good governance structures of Nigeria.
Dasuki stated this at the weekend in the United States while delivering a keynote address on "Challenges of Governance in an Era of Insurgency" at the Nigeria Security Summit, themed: Insecurity, Nigeria and Beyond, organised by Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
He said that the terrorists strive not only to dismantle democratic structures, but to prevent the provision of state services, such as health, education, commerce and security.
He also disclosed that "their activities have forced thousands to flee their homes, jobs and communities, pushing them into poverty."
Stressing the need to understand the effects of insurgency on governance, he noted the additional challenges leaders face in their bid to deliver on their promises to citizens.
According to the NSA, one very glaring consequence of insurgency was that all other governance issues become subordinate to security considerations.
He said: "This consumed both time and energy on the part of the general public and the government in particular.
"A central casualty of the insurgency was that government had to divert scarce resources that could better support development needs to security issues."

Dasuki explained that before the onset of Boko Haram, many foreign partners of Nigeria were mainly interested in governance issues, as it relates to corruption, followed by concern about the conduct of free, fair and credible elections.
He lamented that currently, the pressure on Nigeria and the main focus of foreign intervention, especially from foreign governments is how to tackle insurgency.
Consequently, he added, assistance from donor countries is slowly shifting from economic issues to security issues which necessitates that the relationship between Nigeria and many countries, including her neighbours, which used to be dominated by trade and technical cooperation have been replaced by security considerations.
"The insurgency has re-shaped and redefined the classification of Nigeria in many peoples’ minds all over the world.
“The country’s name is now being mentioned along with those of other countries that have had long standing terrorism challenges. Ordinary Nigerians have also redefined their views of the security situation in the country," he said.
According to him, the issues that used to agitate the minds of the people, in the immediate past, such as armed robbery and kidnapping have been downgraded given the scale of destruction and devastation caused by Boko Haram’s indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
Dasuki has however emphasised that "the ability to adapt to this new environment (of insurgency) while staying focused on real gains (of democracy and good governance) will be key to government’s success."
He went further to catalogue some of the efforts of the Federal Government to tackle the growing threat of insurgency and terrorism in the country, especially the through Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, "significant progress has been made.
"It has allowed us to not only define terrorism, but block avenues of financing for their activities while putting in place structures to deal with our current threats,” he said.
Dasuki also noted that through the establishment of a Counter Terrorism Centre and, working with key stakeholders, "we have developed a National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST)."
He explained that NACTEST is new and is the first major attempt by the government of Nigeria to holistically address the terror attacks that are being perpetrated by violent extremists.
As a sub-set of the overarching National Security Strategy, he said, it holds a strong promise for Nigerians and seeks to re-engage a stakeholder population that is losing or may have lost faith in on-going efforts aimed at addressing threats.
According to him, the strategy explains what organisations and individuals can do to help in its implementation in order to reduce the risks and ensure that people go about their lives freely and with confidence.
He said: "The NACTEST is organised around five streams, each with key objectives and indicators. FORESTALL; to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting attacks. SECURE; strengthen protection capacity against terrorist attacks.
"IDENTIFY; pre-empt through detection, early warning and ensuring that terrorist acts are properly investigated. PREPARE; to mitigate the impact of terrorist attacks by building resilience and IMPLEMENT; a framework for the mobilization of a coordinate cross government effort."
He said that 17 Ministries and 27 Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government are involved in the implementation of the new strategy.
The NSA, however, said that  in order to achieve the objectives of NACTEST, prevent radicalisation and build community resilience, a Soft Approach to counter-terrorism was designed which has resulted in Nigeria’s Countering Violent Extremism Program involving local governments, state governments, civil society organisations  and the private sector.
Also, Mr Robert Rotberg, while delivering a paper on "Fixing Nigeria's Leadership and Governance Problems Will Assist the Battle against Boko Haram" warned that "Nigeria is as close to being a failed state as it has ever been."
Rotberg said that failure to provide basic services like security, schooling and medical clinics amongst others in large sections of the nation reflects weak if not poor governance.
He listed five categories of governance including security and safety, rule of law and transparency, participation and respect for human rights, sustainable economic opportunity, and the provision of human development (education, health, etc.).
"Nigeria clearly does poorly in the first of those categories, very poorly in the second, not well in the third, badly in the fourth (especially in the failure to provide power, roads, and rail), and rather not so well in the fifth.
"All of these long time weaknesses of governance, leading to state failure, have been exacerbated under President Goodluck Jonathan," he said.
According to him, to defeat a disciplined and fanatical insurgency like the one waged by Boko Haram, inspired by some kind of ideological fervour, disciplined leadership is fundamental.
"Without such leadership the security forces are faced with serious morale problems,” he insisted.
He said that "victory over Boko Haram is only possible if President Jonathan makes such a victory a national cause and if he and his close followers find a way to strengthen the legitimacy of the state and of key state institutions such as the military.
"This would mean Jonathan demonstrating a real belief in the integrity of the nation, casting aside party and ethnic considerations, and showing that he really is the leader of all Nigerians, not just southerners, Christians, or the denizens of Abuja.
"Can President Jonathan rise to such heights of good leadership? Or should we even expect him to be able to aspire to effective leadership given Nigeria’s many frailties and some of its structural deficits and difficulties?
"Given the extent to which Boko Haram has made mockery of Nigeria’s established institutions, including the military, it is essential that Boko Haram be stopped now, not after Nigeria has elected a new leader. For all of his weaknesses, this is Jonathan’s test of strength.”

SHOCKER: Mother Of Twins Strangled To Death By Husband A Day After Giving Birth In Ekiti

A woman identified as Titilayo Kola was yesterday strangulated to death allegedly by her husband a day after she was delivered of twins.
ekiti woman 700x393 SHOCKER: Mother Of Twins Strangled To Death By Husband A Day After Giving Birth In Ekiti
Sources revealed that the incident took place at the couple’s apartment at No 23, Temidire Street, Ajowa area of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Findings further revealed that the deceased’s husband, one Mr. Kola, popularly known in as Melomelo (how many, how many), had escaped with the twins even as he was reported to have slept in the same room with his late wife, their new twins and other four children the night before the incident.
Narrating the incident to journalists, the landlady of the deceased, who simply identified herself as Mama Aluko, said, “Titilayo was delivered of a set of twins at midnight on August 7. I was with her to help with the children and other things. Her husband, who has not been living with her for some time now, also came around, while her mum too was also around.
“Around 8:30 in the evening, her mother told me she would be going for night vigil in her church. So, it was her husband, herself and their new twins that I left before I went to bed that night.
“This morning (August 9), I woke up planning whether to prepare Semovita or fufu for Titilayo. It was around that time somebody came to inform me that they couldn’t wake Titilayo up and that her husband and the twins had disappeared.”
Asked about other family members of the couple, the landlady said she didn’t know much about them, adding that Kola (the husband) came to rent the apartment about a year earlier, but, however, stopped living with his wife a few months after they moved into the apartment.
Confirming the development, the Ekiti State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Victor Babayemi, said: “It is a case of homicide and child stealing. The deceased was found dead on the bed in quite a suspicious circumstance, and the prime suspect is the husband of the woman who we haven’t seen.
“So, we have a case of homicide and child stealing on our hands and we have commenced investigation.”

Bukola Saraki Is Excited At Aregbesola’s Win [Read his statement]

bukola saraki Bukola Saraki Is Excited At Aregbesola’s Win [Read his statement]

Below is a statement from Senator Bukola Saraki congratulating incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola on his win at the polls.
In spite of the overwhelming pressure mounted by the unnecessary influx of over 70,000 armed personnel across the state of Osun; the illegal arrest and harassment of opposition members, and; the propaganda from the PDP, the great people of Osun have spoken with their votes.
Osun has decided to give Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola another four year mandate.
I heartily congratulate my brother, Ogbeni Rauf on his sweeping re-election on the people-centered platform of the ALL Progressives Congress (APC).
From every nook and cranny of the State of Osun, people came out en mass to send a clear and loud message: we will not be bullied into submission; we will not cower until we get the change that we rightly deserve; and we will remain united in the firm belief that we can‎ rescue our nation from the failed governance of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Osun has shown those seasonal politicians, that come out few months before election to claim a mandate from the people that no federal might can defeat the will of a powerful people.
I know there are many out there that believe its time for a change but are held back because they believe “federal might” can’t be defeated or the people wish or voice doesn’t count , fellow Nigerians the good people of Osun has shown how that is such a fallacy in today’s Nigeria Despite the clear-cut democratic victory that we have witnessed today, now that the dust has settled, we must get back to building strong precedents for our nation.
I commend Nigerians especially the youth of Osun state, who followed the electoral process all day long to ensure results were not tampered with at any stage of the electoral process. A job well done.
The 2015 General Elections are only months away, therefore, before the single most important democratic contest of our time, we must bring those that choose to trample on the tenets of our democracy to justice. We must begin to investigate the new trend of arresting opposition leaders prior to elections. We must also begin to honestly question the restrictions placed on many of our fundamental Constitutional freedoms when elections come around. Osun is not only a victory for Ogbeni Rauf and the people of his state, it is a victory for the future of this nation.
So, as we celebrate this monumental achievement, I urge Ogbeni Rauf to keep doing the will of his people. I also urge all changemakers, pacesetters, and progressive minded Nigerians to come on board and join us in the battle to reclaim the mandate of our nation.
We can rescue Nigeria, however, like Osun has demonstrated today, we have to work hard and work together. God bless the great people of Osun. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Signed

Bukola Saraki

AAU Student Reportedly Finds a Male Organ in Her Food

An Ambrose Alli University, female student has reportedly found a structure that looks like the male organ inside her meal... The food was bought from one of the restaurants in the school's campus...

Sambisa forest(Poetry)

Village
The approaching footsteps thumps,
Drawing dust to disturb the peace of nature
Like enraged men in turmoil, warring against tranquility
Bearing the wombs of the future on the guillotine of lush plains
Sambisa forest, welcomes unwanted visitors into her serene ambiance
In slavery procession under the watchful eyes of mother moon

Tears trail the young wombs in queue on the prairie
As jubilations sears the air and victorious ululating gunshots tears the night apart
Celebrating the ultimate trophy of the battle of a wield anti-knowledge ideology.
But Sambisa eases, allowing the warm tears of
Our fearful virgins cultivate her damp grounds…
As they thought of the possibility of seeing mama’s face again after this cold night…

And as morning dawns, the first blood is shed
O Sambisa your grounds tasted the
Innocent blood of our young generation
Disvirgined by the blood of our virgin daughters
O Sambisa, reject every evil that tries to grow in you,
For you are only fertile for nature, not for evil.
Purge yourself from this rape of the future.

Fight, fight for the same virgins that drank from your waters
That fetched fire wood freely and
Read Agricultural science to keep your fertility.
O Sambisa withhold water from your spring, dry the leaves on your trees
Withdraw the potency of your humidity,
Become arid and fight with lightning!
Let your mountains become valleys and swallow evil!

Let your trees become foot soldiers and their branches killer darts
Piercing through those demons in human clothes
And let our girls return with war booties
Bring back our girls and refuse the rituals by these Bokos
Sambisa! Sambisa! Sambisa!
Fight for your own, that peace may once again breeze through
the forest of our young girls many
dreams.

End Time Wonders: 23 Yr-Old Beyonce Worshiper Sacrifices Her Life For The Singer

beyonce religion church of bey NL1 500x322 End Time Wonders: 23 Yr Old Beyonce Worshiper Sacrifices Her Life For The Singer
Wonders, they say, shall never end in this world; that is the only way to describe how a 23 years old lady, Taniya Hattersfield, killed herself as a sacrifice to music star, Beyonce Knowles, who is worshipped by a group of people.
They even have a church called National Church of Bey, where they practice a religion called Beyism.
The Church was founded to worship the R&B star, Beyoncé, with hundreds of members who call themselves Divine Divas and see Beyoncé’s music as a very sacred text.
The founder of the National Church of Bey, has defended the church, and says Beyoncé is lord and saviour.
According to a report in the American media, Taniya, of College Park, GA, who was a new member of the church, was found in a pool of her own blood in the basement of her family home, at the steps of a home-made shrine to singer Beyoncé, where she was surrounded by hundreds of candles and a s*****e note she had written stuffed behind her pocket.

In the s*****e note, Taniya wrote that she made herself a sacrifice to her Beyonce, ‘lord and saviour’.
Her father is reported to have said that does not consider her his daughter anymore, that his own offspring would never worship any singer.
He said just because him and her mother ‘had a good time one Friday night don’t make her my daughter.’
Meanwhile, rage has consumed lots of people over the National Church of Bey, and many people have called for Beyoncé to speak out against the new religion, but not one single word has come out of Beyoncé mouth.
