The
Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), on
Friday, assured that petrol importation would resume whenever they
received payment from the ministry of finance.
The National President of IPMAN, Alhaji Aminu Abdulkadri, who
refuted a statement made by the ministry of finance that it had paid
N41.074 billion fuel subsidy arrears to 27 oil marketers, said
marketers had not received any payment from the ministry as claimed.
According to Abdulkadir, the Federal Government had not paid its
members for products imported since the third quarter of 2013, a
situation which forced them to stop further importation.
He added that PMAN members was forced to now depend on products imported by the NNPC.
“If we receive the payments before the close of work today, we will commence importation of fuel into the country immediately.
“We are financially down; no bank can lend us money when we have not paid the previous loans with accumulated interests.
“We appeal to the ministry of finance to expedite action on payment
of marketers’ claims to save the country from another round of scarcity.
“As we speak, only NNPC can import petrol, while other marketers who are supposed to import 50 per cent are cash trapped.
“There are problems of payments. The way out is for the ministry of
finance to act as quickly as possible to pay our members,’’ he said.
